Beyond the Stars, She Cried
?Take the veil from over my eyes, let crystalline tears flow into a sea of stars.?
Prologue
The emergency room was a scene of hectic movement and running nurses. The elevator doors opened and paramedics carrying a young girl on a stretcher moved towards the waiting doctors.
?Take her into room #12, what was her condition when you found her?? asked one of the doctors as the rushed the young girl into room #12.
They picked her up and placed her upon the bed. The nurses and doctors moved around her busily seeing to her condition. The paramedic looked to the doctor and said, ?Apparently her Aunt found her and this?? He lifted from his pocket a small bottle of medication.
The doctor took the bottle and looked at the ingredients carefully. He shook his head in anger. ?What is a child doing with access to this kind of medication??
Meanwhile Chloe lay shaking upon the hospital bed as the doctors and nurses swarmed around her. Her eyes wouldn?t blink, as she lay cold and frozen. Inside her mind she was screaming and sobbing, why couldn?t they have just left her to die? They were always ruining her life.
Her eyes focused upon the overhead lights, like fluorescent angels watching silently. She closed her eyes and was plunged into darkness. Peace at last.

Chapter One
Darkness
Chloe’s eyes opened and she beheld the darkness that surrounded her. What’s this?she thought to herself.
Inside her head her brain was desperately trying to figure out her current predicament. Chloe let out a scream of rage as the darkness swirled around her.
Suddenly a bright light filled the darkness and Chloe held her arms against it. The light lessened and formed into a winged being with bright glowing eyes.
The being did not speak, instead it held up a small red diamond.
“This is the Metaessence, your existence here depends upon these.”
Chloe blinked and in her hand she held the red diamond. It was weightless and radiated a strange warmth that spread through her fingers and strengthened her mind.
“What the hell is going on?” she asked in desperation.
“Your story.”The winged beig replied in a knowing voice.
Chloe’s hand closed over the red diamond, what the mysterious being had called ‘metaessence.’ When she reopened it the diamond was gone but the feeling it had created remained. She closed her eyes and fell back into the darkness as the light from the winged being disappeared.
Hospital
Aunt Bell sat beside the bed where her only niece lay sleeping. Her usually bright blue eyes were red and tired from the last 12 hours.
Was it something I did or didn’t do for her? I was always careful never to put to much stress on her. I failed her I know I did. Huh what’s that?
Aunt Belle looked up from her silent reflection. It was just the doctor walking into the room holding Chloe’s chart in hand. After checking the vital readouts he scribbled something on the paper and looked to Aunt Bell.
“How are you holding up Mrs. Anderson?”
Aunt Bell shook her head and corrected the doctor’s mistake.
“My last name is Williams, she’s my niece but I have legal guardianship.”
Again the doctor wrote something down.
“I see Mrs. Williams, well it seems your niece had a overdose of a prescription painkiller. Its lucky you found her when you did another five minutes and she would have been lost to us.”
Aunt Bell sniffled back some tears.
"Will she recover soon?” She asked hopefully.
The doctor looked once more at his chart and shook his head.
“I cannot answer that right now, maybe in another few hours we can get a clearer picture of the timeframe. But I can tell you that it will be days if not weeks before she is able to leave the hospital. She did have quite a lot of painkillers in her system.”
Aunt Bell looked away from the doctor and at her niece. The doctor dropped the chart to his side and walked up behind Aunt Bell. He gently placed his hand upon her shoulder and offered kind words.
She nodded and spoke her thanks. The doctor turned from her and left the room. Aunt Bell reached over to her niece and held her hand.
You’re the only family I have left, don’t leave me here alone.
