Yes i have found my position better this arenha last arena i landed up with a lot of single figure/5 worlds realy hampering my development alowing others to beet me to systems as i couldnt build star taking colony fleets once i found an empty system.
This system all +15/-3 planets including 2 xx/1 planets
just one question... you do only find empty systems with interstellar settler ships, don`t you?

No eddie you can send out cheeper "probes" but it will mean a delay in colonising a system.
but exactly that delay is the thing why you DON`T build them...
cause when you find an empty system you need to claim it IMMEDIATELY, cause 10 turns later, it is gone!

This arena no more being nice to new players,
No more being tollerant of slack allies.
My home system is not so bad but in a bit of a void.

A new number has appeared on the bottom line and when I hover the mouse over it it shows the indication "number of ticks used in the last 24 hours"?
What can be the meaning?
(I guess it's the number of ticks I logged on the game but what can be its utility and why this arcane (and false) denomination?)
it is thought about limiting this number, so that less active players have more chances to compete with players logging in every turn (if they weren`t prevented from this)

Like Eddi said, plus there is a thread on the portal about it. What do you mean by arcane (and false) denomination though? Is it not clear what it means, if not what would be clearer? 'Number of turns logged in out of last 24'?

No one is suggesting that you should log in every turn, quite the reverse, the plan is to possibly retrict number of turns out of 24 :headbang:

Why the denomination is not "number of tick logged at ..."? (which means "logged at" is missing from the sentence).
What is the purpose to do that? in particular since we have to micromanage the balance between social, production and research since there are no way to program that automatically when some thresold are reached.

Only the top 15 players of an arena usually survive to the end but I guess you want to say that you died too quickly?
For now you should have join (and pay in advance the equivalent of 2 keys btw) the private arena to have a guaranty of space to expand before suffocating by the neighbours.
15-25 are alive mostly with +- 5 planets

2 days my rank was not showing in the top 100.
One neighbour gave me a good deal for ore and I was able to join an alliance significantly stronger so I am climbing again the ladder of glory. Of course not as fast as Silent_Land fly away but I just get my 17th planets and another one should be mine soon so I can up the spinaker and start to be able to have a battlefleet (well one battleship :p).

LOL... I started this round to just test a few things and record some data, and I get one of my best starting positions ever. Nice initial system 30/1, 17/1, 16/1, 8/1, 13/3, lousy map placement though...
42 Berzoid enhanced worlds in hand, several more soon to be landed on. And even with that start Silent and Islay had double my score last night, I'll be lucky to match their scores from yesterday a day later... sheesh... :headbang: :eek:

inadequate boturkoec is killing me this arena (same in every arena I've played so far)... found tons of empty systems and inactives/semi-actives, but without berzoid and no one to trade with to get boturkoec (until around turn 100 the largest empires I met had 11 and 12 planets), my income can't keep up with the increasing settler costs :(
Amazingly enough, this is the first arena I have ever participated in that Verrotan and Boturkeoc weren't a problem... Nucloid and Radiusant were... I had one small Radiusant source from very early, like t10, and didn't start finding more until lately. Nucloid though, OMG! I didn't see ANY of this at all until about t80, if it wasn't for a trade with a neighbor and finding +40 in sources in like 5 turns I wouldn't have had Berzoid until the arena ended.
lol, in a53 it only took incredible luck to get berzoid... I had 0 boturkoec and tons of verrotan until near turn 100, then a 7 planet empire proposed a commerce agreement, I decided to accept, and I was offered 500 of anything (including boturkoec) for 500 nucloid or verrotan... so I got berzoid without a single bit of boturkoec in my first 30 planets :)
finally got a trade this arena so I'll be getting berzoid 12 turns faster... should be able to climb back up a bit after falling from 1st to 13th over the last 3 days :headbang:

From what i see now it's gonna be Silent's "One Key" Vs Islay's "Horsemen" + Allies... Great players on both sides.... from my counts now every side must have about 1000+ planets already...
Everyone else is gonna b squashed in the middle of it. :dead:
So take sides if u wanna have a shot at surviving the next 200 ticks. :cool:

With 22 planets and under attack by an empire with almost 3 times more planet the future was not very optimistic.
My leader took yesteday a new member who has less than 1000 research points! so I suggested to change the name of the alliance to "the salvation army". This night the leader is gone with all the ore reserve and the second followed. So now among the three other keyless members it is rather gloom.
OMG that is soo silly! I have like 1k in science almost as soon as the arena opens, lol How on earth did he graduate from the newbie arena? :rolleyes:

im surrounded by the top players. im near islay, and islay has 100+ planets. there also is forbidden palace and a few other nasty people. from my logic, if islay is nearby, and his alliance members, im caught between the hammer and the anvil. im struggling atm to get more planets. as to whether i will have 5 planets soon, i dont doubt that unless im fast enough to send out more fleets to take out inactive players

I think i know where u are... what's your in-game name again? If you are in the center, a bit up from it maybe, then i sincerely wish u luck, because as soon as Islay + Allies clash with Silent + Allies... that area is gonna get REAL hot.
Good thing i have my side figured out... alliance with Dakota, Lord Talon, Forbidden and Skater. :D
I met Islay recently too... 150+ planets is more accurate... :eek:

Islay did attack one of my alliance's partner.
He tested the first planet of a star system but at the third the defence was one notch higher. He took the planet but its fleet was history. :p
As for me after helping a comrade to get a planet where he had lost so many of its ships I took one planet rather far away from my base. So I prepared it to build some troopers to go on. Then I used netscape 7 and it didn't work well to punch numbers. And I goofed by building 2 terraformers instead of the troopers. My battlefleet will have to take some unwanted rest. :rolleyes:

As to battle fleets... i got 4... taking about 5-7 planets every 10 ticks... soon the entire sector will b mine... :D
Helps if you have a 25-plantes inactive empire next to you... :p
i didn`t even bothered to create a terraformer design, not speaking of building any in the last ... hundred ... arenas ...
Hmmm, I do build the Orbital T-Former's though. They are after all good for 10vp a world and a few extra credits never hurts.
I still build terraformer ships when I have spare cash, they do pay for themselves in less than 2 days after all.

yeah i now. islay keeps on growing. sooner or later, hes going to swallow everything nearby. this is the first time ive almost researched everything available to a keyless player. am attacking a guy called tatoin atm along with solo. both of them are really small. they really dont have the amount of resources i have.
@Islay: even if i have spare money i usually don`t have the (online)time (that is expensive...), or am just too lazy to fizzle out where to build them and where not...
and later in the game, it makes not much difference if you spend 150k or 100k to planets... while you spend 3M for fleets...
building them is easy now with planet-sorting. You list according to descending class, rename everything in that order, and build terraformers at the start of your shipyard list.

im leaving this arena. my grades are going down and i cannot afford to spend any more time on ferion. i might join when the newbie servers are up though. you might say that i am a lil crazy by declaring war on islay and the members of his alliance, but to me, it is the fastest way out of seeing your empire torn apart piece by piece.

Terraformers are actually really useful imo... i mean its true that later 150k or 100k is not that great a difference. But think per tick...
It really helped me to build terraformers once i had nowhere else to settle or was building on all available planets. That extra cash means another settler, ship, whatever.... every so many ticks. Lowered my planet costs from about 50k to 12k in 50 ticks... a large difference early on, really helps with fleet support, indirectly.
Also, not all of us have 200+ planets so every 10k is good. :D

The idea behind that was that the easiest means to control the occupied countries was to settle germans there (a very popular idea, look at the former soviet union or Yugoslavia for example).
But an other thing Hitler and Bush have in common: the "reichstagsbrand" and 9/11. not how those incidents happened, but how they used them...

the USA was kinda occupied with the Japanese and due to the huge support the Nazis actually had by the american population, the US first limited themselves to sending support (weapons/supplies)
if Hitler hadn't attacked France and the UK, but only the SU, the USA would most likely even have supported Hitlers war (assuming thad the 3rd reich hadn't had any relations to Japan though)
PS: Hitler was even reluctant to declare war on the US (somewhat similar to Stalin who did not want to believe that Germany would attack him until the last moment )

The standard procedure is that there are two warnings before the arena halts for good and the checks occur at the 'midnight' (CEST) high score/random event check.
In other words if you get to the victory condition at midday Tuesday you get a warning at midnight Tuesday, a second warning at midnight Wednesday and the arena finishes Midnight Thursday.
This applies to percentage victories (solo and alliance) not to FAC.
In recent arenas when an alliance has clearly formed for the sole purpose of ending the arena we have short-cut that process to save the players waiting around for 2-3 days, however certain people (unreasonably in my opinion) complained that this was not fair, cutting short their enjoyment that they payed for, etc. so I intend to let this one run its automatic course.
